Tonle Sap Lake: Ecotourism Potential
Hospitality Private Sector Assessment
The largest body of freshwater in Southeast Asia, Tonle Sap Lake (បឹងទន្លេសាប, literally ‘Fresh River’, also called ‘Great Lake’ to distinguish it from homonymous 120-km-long river joining the Mekong River south, Hylak ID: 153) is a remarkable biosphere, a source of life for millions, and an area of natural beauty that requires the utmost environmental responsibility.
As part of CAPFISH program 'Support to Cambodia Fishing Communities Livelihoods Lot 1', a European Union program directed by Oxfam, we conducted from December 2020 to May 2023 field research, benchmarking to other lake-based hospitality solutions, and documentation aggregation in order to define recommendations and suggestions for a sustainable development
of ecotourism in the Tonle Sap Basin Reserve.
